2020–2026 Jeep Gladiator Upgrades, Ranked: 4 Mods for the Open-Top JT, in the Order to Buy Them
Four upgrades for the Jeep Gladiator JT, ranked in the order most owners should buy them. Fit is simpler than on most pickups, with one cab and one 5 ft bed. What shapes the order is everything else: a roof and doors that come off, a Trail Rail system that some beds have and some don't, and a tailgate lock that a soft top can't protect.

- One cab, one bed. Every JT is a four-door crew cab with a 5 ft box, listed as 60 or 60.3 in. There is no length to get wrong.
- Trail Rail is the main trap. Look for the front and side rails in the bed before buying a cover or a clamp rack.
- The roof and doors come off. That puts floor liners first and makes a bed rack this truck's roof rack.
- Choose the cover and rack as a pair. A drilled rack rules out a folding cover; the GoRack can sit on a cover's T-slot rails.
- Look before buying a hitch. The maximum is up to 7,700 lb when properly equipped, and the receiver and rating vary by truck.
Gladiator upgrades in priority order
Each step links to a full fit-checked guide for the 2020–2026 Jeep Gladiator.
Floor liners first: the cab that gets rained in
Floor liners lead on the Gladiator for a reason particular to this truck: the doors and the roof come off. Wikipedia notes the front and rear doors can be fully removed, and with the top off too, rain, dust and trail spray land directly in the footwells. That makes wall height the first thing to shop for. Fit is the easy part. Every JT is a four-door crew cab, there is no 4xe hybrid, and trim doesn't change the floor. The one check is under the rear seat. Lift the cushion and note whether you have the lockable bin, open storage or none; Rough Country's mats are cut for the lockable bin. Then check the year range: Husky's three-piece title stops at 2024, 3W's at 2025, and LASFIT names 2020–2026. Prices in our guide run about $90–$130 for Rough Country's mats, about $100–$150 for MAXLINER, Mopar, 3W and LASFIT, and about $150–$210 for Husky's WeatherBeater, which Husky says is made in the USA with a lifetime warranty against cracks and breaks. The trade-off is firm, tall walls against softer TPE with a lower lip.
Skip it if: You already run a molded Gladiator set that hooks onto the driver-side retention posts.
Our best overall: Husky Liners WeatherBeater Front & 2nd Row 3-pc ($150–$210)
Compare all 6 floor mats & liners picks →Tonneau cover second: one bed length, two real questions
A tonneau cover ranks second because the Gladiator has one 5 ft bed and no trunk, so everything you carry rides in the open until you cover it. Makers list the box as 60 or 60.3 in, and any Gladiator-specific cover is the right length. Two other things decide the purchase. The first is the Trail Rail system. The BAKFlip MX4, Gator EFX, TruXedo Sentry, BAK Revolver X2 and Tyger T3 are all listed as fitting with or without it, but some budget covers are sold for rail-free beds only. The second is your top. Every cover locks only because the tailgate does, and the tailgate lock follows the power locks, so a cut soft top can undo a hard cover. BAK lists the MX4 as not recommended for soft tops. Prices in our guide run about $221 for the Tyger T3, about $549 for the Gator EFX, about $1,050 for the Sentry, about $1,100 for the MX4 and about $1,380 for the Revolver X2. The hard covers carry 300 to 400 lb spread evenly; the T3 has no rating. If a rack is coming, read the next slot before you pay.
Skip it if: You're fitting a rack that excludes covers, such as Rough Country's drilled 10620 or the OTHOWE 22 in.
Our best overall: BAKFlip MX4 Hard Folding Tonneau Cover 448701 ($1,100)
Compare all 5 tonneau covers picks →Bed rack third: the roof rack this truck can't have
The bed rack ranks third, and it matters more here than on most pickups, because of the roof. Every Gladiator has a removable hardtop or soft top, so there is no fixed roof to carry a rooftop tent, and the bed is the only solid structure behind the cab. With one bed length, fit comes down to how the rack mounts. Rough Country's 10620 drills and bolts into the bed and is listed for the 2020–2026 JT, including the Rubicon and Mojave. Yakima's OverHaul HD clamps on and adjusts from 19 to 30 in, but Yakima says tracked beds need its Track Kit 1 or 2, which is the route for Trail Rail trucks. RealTruck says its GoRack bolts into the stake pockets or onto a cover's T-slot rails. Prices in our guide run about $500 for the Rough Country, about $1,090 for the GoRack and about $1,200 for Yakima's towers before crossbars; the SUORTO and OTHOWE clamp racks are priced on their listings. The GoRack is rated 1,000 lb static and 600 lb dynamic, the Rough Country 750 and 400. Rack, tent, gear and passengers all count against payload.
Skip it if: Nothing you carry is taller than the cab and you don't camp from the truck.
Our best overall: RealTruck GoRack Overland Truck Rack 9150101 ($1,090)
Compare all 5 bed racks picks →Lighting fourth: plenty of JT kits, but mostly off-road light
Lighting comes last in the buying order, yet it's a stronger category on the Gladiator than on most trucks. Wikipedia notes the JT shares its platform with the Wrangler JL, so many JL kits also list the Gladiator; Baja Designs lists its A-pillar, 40 in cowl and 50 in roof kits for both. The light bar itself is mostly universal. What has to match is the mount, and there are four: the windshield frame, the A-pillar or cowl, the front bumper and the fog pockets. Trim is the trap. Baja's 50 in roof kit, the ZROADZ A-pillar kit and Hawkley's brackets are listed as not fitting the Mojave, and Baja's A-pillar kit needs longer M6 x 80 mm bolts on that truck's taller cowl. Bumper and fog pocket kits are sold by bumper type. Prices in our guide run about $135 for the ZROADZ A-pillar kit, from about $399 for Baja's Squadron Sport A-pillar kit, about $1,160 for Baja's LP6 Pro bumper kit and from about $2,054 for the S8 50 in roof kit. It ranks fourth because most of these are off-road lights. KC HiLiTES says they must be off on the roadway, and that many states also require covers.
Skip it if: You don't drive unlit dirt roads at night, where an off-road light is allowed to be on.
Our best overall: Baja Designs LP6 Pro LED Bumper Light Kit ($1,160)
Compare all 5 led light bars picks →What a Gladiator build costs, by tier
| Upgrade | Budget | Mid | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Floor liners | About $90–$130 (Rough Country mats, lockable-bin trucks); $100–$140 (MAXLINER) | About $110–$150 (3W or LASFIT TPE); $100–$150 (Mopar rubber mats) | About $150–$210 (Husky WeatherBeater 3-piece) |
| Tonneau cover | About $221 (Tyger T3 soft tri-fold) | About $549 (Gator EFX hard tri-fold) | About $1,050 (TruXedo Sentry) to $1,380 (BAK Revolver X2); $1,100 for the BAKFlip MX4 |
| Bed rack | About $500 (Rough Country 10620; drilled, open bed); SUORTO and OTHOWE priced on the listing | About $1,090 (RealTruck GoRack) | About $1,200 (Yakima OverHaul HD towers; crossbars extra) |
| Lighting | About $135 (ZROADZ A-pillar kit; not Mojave) | From about $399 (Baja Squadron Sport A-pillar kit) | About $1,160 (Baja LP6 Pro bumper kit) to $2,054 (Baja S8 50 in roof kit; not Mojave) |
| Total | About $950–$1,000 (drilled rack and folding cover can't share the bed) | About $2,150–$2,190 (confirm the rack and cover pair) | About $3,560–$4,840 plus crossbars |
Towing and side steps: what your Gladiator may already have
There is no trailer hitch guide for the Gladiator on this site yet, and many owners won't need one. Our vehicle data lists a Class III hitch with a 2 in receiver and a maximum of 7,700 lb. Jeep's 2024 and 2025 releases quote the same ceiling, along with a maximum payload of up to 1,725 lb; Wikipedia gives 1,000 to 1,700 lb depending on configuration.
Read that as up to 7,700 lb when properly equipped, with three cautions. First, it is the best case. Wikipedia's JT page gives 4,000 lb for the standard truck, 7,650 lb for select Sport models with the heavy-duty towing package and 7,000 lb for Rubicons with the automatic. The maximum varies with trim, axle ratio, transmission and model year, so the figure that counts is on your door-jamb labels and in your owner's manual. Second, we could not confirm from a Jeep page which trims and years leave the factory with a receiver. Jeep's 2024 release lists Trailer Tow equipment under the Willys, Mojave and Rubicon, and Mopar sells an accessory receiver, part 82215648, described as a Class IV, 2 in hitch for 2020–2026 trucks, which suggests not every truck is built with one. Look under the rear bumper, or check your window sticker, and read the class and limits on the receiver's own label. Third, a receiver never raises a rating; the lowest-rated part of the chain sets the limit.
The same look-first rule applies to running boards and rock rails. The site has no Gladiator guide for either yet, so they aren't ranked here. Wikipedia notes the Willys comes with standard rock rails, and other trims may have rocker protection as well. Whatever is bolted under your doors now decides what, if anything, you need to add.
Trail Rail: check it once, before any bed purchase
Trail Rail is Jeep's cargo management system and the Gladiator's one real bed variable. It is a 52 in rail across the front of the bed and two 48 in rails along the sides, with sliding cleats and optional cross rails. Some trucks got it at the factory. Mopar also sells it as kit 82215956, which Jeep's gear store lists at $492.20 and describes as identical to the production system, so a used truck can have it even if the original build didn't. Look inside the bed before ordering.
- Covers: the BAKFlip MX4, Gator EFX, TruXedo Sentry and BAK Revolver X2 are listed with or without Trail Rail, and Tyger says the T3 fits with or without the Utility Track System. Gator's soft ETX is titled for trucks without the track rail. If a cheap listing doesn't mention the rails, assume it doesn't fit them.
- Racks: clamp racks grip the bed sides where the rails sit. Yakima says tracked beds need Track Kit 1 or 2. Rough Country's drilled 10620 works around the rails. RealTruck's GoRack page doesn't say how it handles them, and the budget listings don't either, so ask.
- Loads: Quadratec and Jeep's gear store give a 250 lb limit per rail. That suits tie-downs and light accessories, not a tent and two sleepers. The rack carries the tent.
On install day, slide the cleats away from where clamps or rails will land, or take them off.
Roof off, doors off: what the open cab changes
Jeep's 2025 press kit describes a folding windshield, three removable roof choices and removable doors. That one design choice reaches into all four categories.
Floor liners. With the cab open, water reaches the footwells directly, so walls matter more than they do in a sealed truck. Our liner guide puts Husky's WeatherBeater first for wall height, with 3W and LASFIT moderate and the Mopar and Rough Country mats lower. Owners on JeepGladiatorForum describe rubber drain plugs in the floor, under perforated carpet cut-outs on the driver and passenger sides. None of the liner listings in our guide address those drains, so if you plan to rinse the cab and pull the plugs, ask the seller how the liner sits over them.
Bed rack. No fixed roof means no conventional roof rack, so tents, awnings and boats go over the bed. A mid-height rack keeps the tent near the cab roofline. Our rack guide notes that with the roof panels off, a tent just above the cab can make the open cabin noisier, and that a full-height rack lifts it clear.
Tonneau cover. A soft top weakens every hard cover, because the tailgate lock follows the power locks. Owners on JeepGladiatorForum describe unplugging the tailgate's lock actuator for key-only use, or adding a mechanical lock.
Lights. A long light bar mounts on windshield-frame brackets, not on the removable roof panels. Baja warns its 50 in roof kit may cause wind noise depending on vehicle configuration. A-pillar pods and bumper lights stay out of that airflow.
Trims and model years that change the plan
Trim changes very little on the Gladiator. Sport, Willys, Mojave and Rubicon share the same cab floor and the same bed, so liners, covers and racks ignore the badge. These are the exceptions.
| Truck | What it has | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Mojave | Taller cowl (Baja); steel front bumper per Wikipedia, though Jeep's 2024 release lists steel bumpers as available on Mojave and standard on Mojave X | Baja's 50 in roof kit, the ZROADZ A-pillar kit and Hawkley's brackets don't fit; Baja's A-pillar and cowl kits need M6 x 80 mm bolts |
| Willys, Mojave, Rubicon (2024) | Jeep's 2024 release lists Trailer Tow and programmable auxiliary switches | Baja's upfitter harness versions suit a factory switch bank; other trucks use the toggle harness |
| Soft-top trucks | Jeep's 2024 release lists a soft top on the Sport | BAK doesn't recommend the MX4; add a key-only or mechanical tailgate lock, or use a soft cover |
| Lockable rear under-seat bin | Locking storage under the rear cushion on many trucks | Rough Country's mats are cut for it; confirm other rear liners against your storage |
| 2025–2026 trucks | Several listings stop at 2024 or 2025 | Confirm Husky's 3-piece set, 3W, the Revolver X2, the GoRack and the LP6 Pro kit for your year; LASFIT and the Tyger T3 name 2026 |
| Manual trucks (through 2024) | Six-speed manual; dropped for 2025 (Wikipedia) | Press the clutch to the floor after fitting the driver liner |
Choose the cover and rack together, then install in this order
Our two bed guides give opposite advice on which to pick first. The tonneau cover guide says rack first, and the bed rack guide says cover first. Both make the same point: settle both before you pay for either. These are the pairings the guides could document.
- Rack on the cover's rails: RealTruck says the GoRack mounts to any bed cover with a T-slot style rail system, so the bed stays closed and locked under a tent.
- Adapter kit: Yakima offers Tonneau Kit 1 for the OverHaul HD on select covers. Yakima's page doesn't name the Gladiator, so run the truck and the cover through its fit lookup.
- Owner-reported pairs: on JeepGladiatorForum, Pace Edwards roll-up covers under Yakima-style T-slot racks, and a Diamondback HD cover with a rack that bolts to the cover.
- Open-bed racks: Rough Country's 10620 drills into the bed and isn't a match for a folding cover. The OTHOWE 22 in is listed for trucks without a tonneau. The SUORTO listing doesn't say.
Then fit things in this order. Floor liners go in first; they need no tools. Next, move or remove the Trail Rail cleats. Fit the cover, then the rack, since a rack that sits on T-slot rails needs the cover in place, and check that the third brake light is still visible behind the load. Lighting goes last, because a rack gives lights a second home: the SUORTO rack ships with two LED bars, and many owners put rear-facing scene lights on a rack. Our lighting guide's wiring rule is a relay, a correctly sized fuse and a switch for each circuit. Baja lists its 50 in S8 bar at 20 A, so it needs its own. Use an upfitter harness only if your Jeep has the factory auxiliary switch bank.
What to avoid
Bed parts bought before checking for Trail Rail. The rails sit where cover and rack clamps grip. Buy covers listed with or without Trail Rail, ask rack sellers in writing, and never hang a tent load on the rails themselves.
Wrangler parts that don't name the Gladiator. Only the front footwells and front end are shared. Wrangler rear liners don't fit, and a JL light bracket is a safe buy only when its listing names the JT and your year.
A hard cover treated as a safe on a soft-top truck. The tailgate lock follows the power locks, and a cut soft top exposes the unlock button. BAK doesn't recommend the MX4 on soft tops.
A Mojave shopped like any other JT. Baja's 50 in roof kit, the ZROADZ A-pillar kit and Hawkley's brackets exclude it, and Baja's A-pillar kit needs longer bolts on its taller cowl.
Frequently asked questions
What should I upgrade first on a 2020–2026 Jeep Gladiator?
Floor liners, then the bed. Liners cost the least, about $90–$210 across the six sets in our guide, and they matter more here than on other pickups because the doors and top come off and weather lands in the footwells. A tonneau cover comes next, since the 5 ft bed is the truck's only cargo space. Decide on a bed rack at the same time, because a drilled or full-height rack rules a cover out. Lighting comes last: most bars and pods are off-road lights. Before any bed purchase, check whether your truck has the Trail Rail system.
Do I need to buy a trailer hitch for a Jeep Gladiator?
Maybe not, so look first. Our vehicle data lists a Class III hitch with a 2 in receiver for this generation, but we couldn't confirm from a Jeep page which trims and years ship with a receiver fitted. Jeep's 2024 release lists Trailer Tow equipment under the Willys, Mojave and Rubicon, and Mopar sells an accessory Class IV, 2 in receiver for 2020–2026 trucks, so some Gladiators appear to leave the factory without one. Look under the rear bumper or read your window sticker. If a receiver is there, an aftermarket trailer hitch adds nothing. The site has no Gladiator hitch guide yet.
How much can a Jeep Gladiator tow?
Up to 7,700 lb when properly equipped, and often much less. Our vehicle data and Jeep's 2024 and 2025 releases give 7,700 lb as the maximum. Wikipedia's JT page lists 4,000 lb for the standard truck, 7,650 lb for select Sport models with the heavy-duty towing package and 7,000 lb for Rubicons with the automatic. The figure changes with trim, axle ratio, transmission and model year. Your truck's limit is on the door-jamb labels and in the owner's manual. A hitch never raises it, and tongue weight counts against payload along with passengers, a rack and a tent.
Does the Trail Rail system change which Gladiator upgrades fit?
It changes the two bed upgrades and nothing else. Trail Rail is a 52 in front rail and two 48 in side rails bolted inside the bed, fitted at the factory on some trucks and sold by Mopar as kit 82215956. The rails sit where cover clamps and rack clamps grip. The five covers in our guide are listed as fitting with or without it, but Gator's soft ETX is sold for trucks without the track rail. For racks, Yakima says tracked beds need its Track Kit 1 or 2, and most other rack listings don't say, so ask the seller. Floor liners and lights are unaffected.
Can I put a roof rack on a Jeep Gladiator?
Not in the usual sense, and this site has no Gladiator roof rack guide. Every JT has a removable hardtop or soft top, so there is no fixed roof to clamp crossbars to or to carry a rooftop tent. Our vehicle data records the roof as removable, with overland loads going on the bed instead. The bed is the only solid structure behind the cab, which is why a bed rack does the roof rack's job on this truck: tent, awning, recovery boards, bikes or boats.
Can I run a tonneau cover and a bed rack together on a Gladiator?
Yes, with a matched pair. RealTruck says its GoRack mounts to any bed cover with a T-slot style rail system, or into the stake pockets. Yakima offers Tonneau Kit 1 for the OverHaul HD on select covers. Owners on JeepGladiatorForum report Pace Edwards roll-up covers under Yakima-style T-slot racks, and a Diamondback HD cover with a rack that bolts to it. Rough Country's 10620 drills into the bed and isn't a match for a folding cover, and the OTHOWE 22 in is listed for trucks without a tonneau. Choose both before paying for either.
How much does it cost to add all four upgrades to a Gladiator?
From the prices on our four guides' picks, a budget build runs about $950–$1,000: Rough Country or MAXLINER liners, Tyger's T3 soft cover, Rough Country's 10620 rack and the ZROADZ A-pillar light kit. The drilled 10620 and a folding cover can't be fitted together, so that tier is really a cover or a rack. A mid build runs about $2,150–$2,190 with 3W or LASFIT liners, the Gator EFX, RealTruck's GoRack and Baja's Squadron Sport A-pillar kit. A premium build with Husky liners, a hard roll-up, Yakima's OverHaul HD towers and Baja's LP6 Pro or S8 roof kit runs about $3,560–$4,840 before crossbars. All figures are approximate.
Do Wrangler JL accessories fit the Gladiator?
Some front-end parts do, and nothing behind the front seats does. Wikipedia notes the Gladiator shares its platform with the Wrangler JL, and the guides show where that helps. Husky lists its 13021 front liner pair for the 2018–2026 Wrangler and the 2020–2026 Gladiator. Baja Designs lists its A-pillar, 40 in cowl and 50 in roof light kits for both. The rear floor is the Gladiator's own, so a Wrangler rear liner won't fit, and the Wrangler has no bed. Buy only listings that name the Gladiator JT and your model year; some JL brackets never list the JT.
What would you buy first with about $350?
A liner set and a soft cover. LASFIT's TPE liners, about $110–$150 in our guide, are listed for the 2020–2026 Gladiator JT front and rear, so they cover the newest trucks. Tyger's T3 soft tri-fold is about $221, is listed as fitting with or without the Utility Track System, weighs 28.4 lb and carries a 5-year warranty. That's about $330–$370 in total. Lift the rear seat cushion first to see what storage you have, and look in the bed for Trail Rail. A soft cover is also a sensible placeholder while you decide on a rack, because it comes off in minutes.
On the 2020–2026 Gladiator, buy tall-walled floor liners first, choose the tonneau cover and bed rack together after looking for Trail Rail, add lighting last, and look under the bumper before spending anything on a hitch.
The Gladiator is one of the simplest pickups to fit and one of the easiest to buy wrong. One cab and one 5 ft bed remove the usual length questions. What's left is specific to this truck: whether the bed has Trail Rail, whether the top is soft or hard, what sits under the rear seat, and whether the badge says Mojave. Floor liners need one of those checks and cost the least, so they go first. The tonneau cover and the bed rack need the Trail Rail check and each other, so they're decided as a pair, with the cover ahead for most owners and the rack ahead for anyone who camps from the truck.
A light bar or pod kit ranks last because most of it is off-road lighting, though the shared front end gives the JT plenty of documented kits. A trailer hitch, running boards and rock rails aren't ranked, since the site has no Gladiator guide for them yet and your truck may already carry some of that equipment. Owners who also have a 2018–2026 Wrangler can share Husky's front liner pair and many light mounts, and nothing else. Each linked guide covers the fit details for its category.

Open the Gladiator fit hub →How we wrote this
We did not install any of these parts ourselves. The order comes from our four fit-checked 2020–2026 Gladiator guides, weighing how many trucks each upgrade suits, what it costs, how often it's used and how much can go wrong with fit (Trail Rail, top, trim, bumper, model year). Price bands are the prices listed on those guides' picks, checked at maker and retailer stores in September 2026, and are approximate. Vehicle facts come from our vehicle data, the guides' sources, Wikipedia's JT page and Jeep's 2024 and 2025 releases. Where we couldn't confirm a factory detail, the text says so.
