2022–2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee Upgrades, Ranked: 4 Mods in Order, With Three-Row L and 4xe Fit Traps

Four upgrades for the fifth-generation Grand Cherokee, in buying order. Fit on this SUV turns on a short list of facts: two rows or the three-row Grand Cherokee L, WL or the 2022 carry-over WK, gas or 4xe, whether the tow package was ordered, and whether the roof bars slide or sit at fixed points.

Key takeaways
  1. Count the rows. The two-row Grand Cherokee and the three-row L share aftermarket hitches and Amazon crossbar listings, but not floor liners.
  2. A 2022 can be the old WK. Jeep sold the carry-over WK beside the new WL for 2022, and WK2 liners, hitches and rack parts don't fit a WL.
  3. The 4xe changes the liners and the tow rating, not the roof. Husky's 95411 excludes it, and a dealer guide lists 6,000 lb or 3,500 lb by trim.
  4. Look under the rear fascia before hitch shopping. A tow-package Grand Cherokee already has a 2 in receiver and wiring.
  5. Bars before box. Fixed-point bars set the spread, about 24.5 in on the Rhino-Rack Vortex, and 165 lb bars leave 108–126 lb for gear.

Grand Cherokee upgrades in priority order

Each step links to a full fit-checked guide for the 2022–2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

1

Floor liners first: the lowest price, and three look-alikes to rule out

Floor liners lead on the Grand Cherokee because they cost the least and suit every owner. Settle three facts first. Body: our floor liner guide covers the two-row WL only. The three-row Grand Cherokee L has a different rear floor, and Husky sells it separate sets such as the 99181 for L models with second-row buckets. Year: a 2022 can be the carry-over WK, which takes WK2 liners such as Husky's 99151. Powertrain: Husky's WeatherBeater 95411 is listed for the 2022–2025 Grand Cherokee excluding the 4xe, while 3W's set and the generic sets name the 4xe. Prices run about $90–$130 for a generic 5-seat cabin set, about $100–$140 for Flymotor's TPE set, about $130–$180 for 3W's floor mats with a cargo liner and about $150–$210 for the Husky set, which Husky says is made in the USA with a lifetime warranty against cracks and breaks. The trade-off: Husky publishes the most but leaves out the 4xe and the cargo area.

Skip it if: You lease in a dry climate, the factory mats are still clean and nothing wet rides in the cargo area.

Our best overall (gas): Husky Liners WeatherBeater 95411 ($150–$210)

Roof rack second: cheap clamp-on bars, and the base the box needs

A roof rack ranks second because crossbars are cheap, go on without drilling and are the base the cargo box needs. Our vehicle data records flush side rails on most trims, and towers made to wrap under a raised rail have nothing to grip there. All five Amazon sets in our roof rack guide name both the two-row Grand Cherokee and the L, and none excludes the 4xe. A 2021 L is a WL, but a 2021 two-row is the older WK2. Clamp-on bars slide along the rail, so you set the spread. etrailer lists the Yakima SkyLine and Rhino-Rack Vortex at fixed mounting points, with the Vortex spread at about 24.5 in. Prices run about $90–$130 for FLYCLE's lockable bars, about $100–$150 for the Wonderdriver and low-noise sets, about $130–$170 for BRIGHTLINES' bolt-in bars and about $605–$774 for Thule and Yakima systems on etrailer, priced for the 2023 two-row. The trade-off is the rating: brand-name systems carry 165 lb, clamp-on sets print 220–300 lb, and neither replaces the owner's manual roof limit.

Skip it if: The roof has no side rails, or everything you carry fits behind the second row.

Our best overall value: Wonderdriver 300 lb Cross Bars ($100–$150)

3

Trailer hitch third: you may already have one, and adding one means fascia work

A trailer hitch ranks third because a Grand Cherokee ordered with the tow package already has one, and fitting one is the biggest job on this page. Look under the rear fascia for a square 2 in opening first. If there is no receiver, the aftermarket parts are concealed designs: the crossbar hides behind the fascia, and CURT's install sheet for its 13525 has the rear bumper cover and bumper beam removed. Draw-Tite's 76595 and CURT's 13525 list the 2022–2026 Grand Cherokee and the 2021–2026 Grand Cherokee L, both at 7,500 lb, with 1,125 lb of tongue weight on the Draw-Tite and 750 lb on the CURT. CURT excludes the two-row Trailhawk. Mopar splits by body: 82219040AA for the two-row and 82219041AA for the L. Prices run about $130–$190 for the budget Class 3 receivers, about $220–$300 for the CURT, about $250–$340 for the Draw-Tite and about $300–$500 for the Mopar part. A receiver takes the heavy gear the roof bars can't. No hitch raises the Jeep's own tow rating. If you tow, move this slot up to second.

Skip it if: A square 2 in receiver already shows under the rear fascia; buy a ball mount and check the wiring instead.

Our best overall: Draw-Tite 76595 Class 4 Trailer Hitch 2 in ($250–$340)

Cargo box last: the biggest spend, bought to match the bars

A cargo box comes last because it costs the most, is used least often and can't be chosen until the crossbars are. Boxes are universal, and two numbers from the bars decide which one works. The first is spread. On fixed-point bars it is set for you, about 24.5 in on the Rhino-Rack Vortex. Yakima's SkyBox 16 and CBX 16 start at 24 in and Thule's Motion 3 XL at 21-13/16 in, so they fit. SportRack's Vista XL starts at 25-7/8 in and needs clamp-on bars. The second is weight: on 165 lb bars a 47 lb SkyBox 16 leaves 118 lb for gear. The two-row suits shorter boxes such as Thule's 76.8 in Force 3 L, and the L's longer roof gives the 84.7 in Motion 3 XL more room ahead of the liftgate. Prices run about $140 for Rightline's Sport 3 soft carrier, about $450 for the Vista XL, about $599 for the SkyBox 16 Carbonite, about $699 for the CBX 16, about $880 for the Force 3 L and about $1,150 for the Motion 3 XL. The trade-off is height: these carriers add 15 to 19 in above the bars.

Skip it if: The cargo area holds a normal trip with the seats up, or the heavy items can ride on a hitch carrier.

Our best overall: Yakima SkyBox 16 Carbonite Rooftop Cargo Box ($599)

Two-row, L, WK2 or 2022 WK: name the body before anything else

Three different vehicles answer to the name Grand Cherokee in these model years. Wikipedia says the three-row Grand Cherokee L went on sale in June 2021 and the two-row was held to the 2022 model year. For 2022 Jeep also kept selling the outgoing WK2 as the Grand Cherokee WK. So a 2021 can be a WK2 or an L, and a 2022 two-row can be a WL or a WK.

Jeep lists the two-row with seating for 5 and the L with three rows for up to 7. Some listings use Jeep's codes: WL74 for the two-row, WL75 for the L.

The L adds one question for floor liners. Second-row captain's chairs appear in Wikipedia's WL equipment lists, and Husky sells the 99181 for L models with second-row buckets, so an L set is cut for a bench or for buckets. We could not confirm from a Jeep page which L trims have which.

The floor liner guide is two-row WL only. The hitch, roof rack and cargo box guides cover the two-row and the L.

The 4xe and the 2026 refresh: what powertrain and model year change

The 4xe. Stellantis describes the plug-in hybrid as two electric motors, a 400-volt battery pack and a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder.

  • Floor liners. Husky's 95411 set is listed excluding the 4xe. We could not confirm what differs in the floor. 3W's set and the generic sets name the 4xe; Flymotor's title doesn't mention it.
  • Hitch. Draw-Tite lists the 76595 with no trim exclusion. CURT's 13525 excludes the two-row Trailhawk, which Wikipedia says became 4xe-only from the 2023 model year. Budget copies of the CURT design may share it.
  • Tow rating. A dealer towing guide lists 6,000 lb on Trailhawk and higher 4xe trims and 3,500 lb on base 4xe models. Wikipedia gives 6,000 lb with no trim split. Use the owner's manual figure.

The roof is unchanged.

The 2026 model year. Jeep describes the 2026 Grand Cherokee as refreshed, with a new grille, new fascias, redesigned headlamps and a new 2.0L Hurricane 4 Turbo engine. As we read Jeep's 2026 capability page, it lists that engine and the 3.6L V6 and doesn't mention the 4xe. We could not confirm whether a 2026 4xe is offered.

For fit, titles that stop at 2024 or 2025 need a question to the seller. New fascias matter most for a concealed hitch, and Draw-Tite's 76595 and CURT's 13525 are both listed through 2026.

Towing: the receiver you may already have, and the rating by engine

The receiver. Our vehicle data records a Class IV hitch with a 2 in receiver. That describes a Grand Cherokee built with the tow package, not every one. A dealer towing guide lists the available Trailer-Tow Package as a Class IV receiver hitch, a seven-pin and four-pin wiring harness, rear load-leveling suspension and heavy-duty engine cooling, and says the package doesn't raise the maximum. We could not confirm which trims and years include it, or what Jeep rates a Grand Cherokee without it to tow.

The class. Labels vary by source. Mopar's replacement listing calls the production receiver a Class III, 2 in part and gives no rating. Go by the pounds on the hitch label.

The rating. The figures below are maximums for a properly equipped vehicle, as the named sources list them. They vary with trim, package and model year, and the owner's manual towing chart is the authority.

Tongue weight and wiring. The Draw-Tite is rated at 1,125 lb of tongue weight and the CURT at 750 lb. We could not confirm the Jeep's own tongue weight limit, or whether Jeep allows weight distribution on every trim, so check the manual. A hitch added later brings no wiring, so add a vehicle-specific harness to the order.

Flush rails, fixed points and 165 lb bars: the roof as a base for a box

Rails or no rails. Our vehicle data records factory flush side rails on most trims. etrailer also lists two Rhino-Rack systems for a Grand Cherokee with no rails. We could not confirm which trims and years lack rails. Every Amazon set in our roof rack guide needs the factory rails.

The roof limit. Our vehicle data holds no roof load figure for this generation, and our guides could not confirm one from Jeep. The owner's manual is the authority, and its figure covers bars, box and contents together.

Spread and weight. Thule's Evo Flush Rail system uses 47 in bars that adjust along the rail. The Yakima SkyLine and Rhino-Rack Vortex sit at fixed points, and etrailer lists the Vortex at about 24.5 in. The table applies both numbers to each hard box in the cargo box guide.

Glass. etrailer reports that the Thule WingBar Evo doesn't interfere with the 2023 Grand Cherokee's factory sunroof, and warns that opening a sunroof with cargo on a Vortex rack could cause contact. We could not confirm which trims have a sunroof or a larger panoramic roof. Test any glass while parked, and keep it closed with a box on.

Roof or hitch for the heavy gear, and the order to fit all four

The Grand Cherokee has two places to carry what doesn't fit inside. Bars rated at 165 lb carry the box as well as its contents, which leaves 108 to 126 lb for gear. A receiver is built for more: tongue ratings in our hitch guide run from 750 lb on the CURT to 1,125 lb on the Draw-Tite, though the Jeep's own limit in the owner's manual still governs. So bulky, light gear goes in the box. Heavy bikes, coolers and bins go on a hitch rack or carrier.

Running boards and lighting have no Grand Cherokee guide on this site yet, so they aren't ranked.

Fit the four in this order.

1. Floor liners. Remove the factory mat, hook the driver liner onto Jeep's retention posts and press both pedals to the floor. 2. Crossbars. Set clamp-on bars to the spread the carrier needs. 3. Trailer hitch. Draw-Tite quotes 90 minutes with no drilling for the 76595. The brand-name hitches weigh 41 to 42 lb, so use a helper or a floor jack. 4. Cargo box. Slide the box forward and open the power liftgate slowly the first time.

What to avoid

A 2022 listing that doesn't say WL. The 2022 carry-over WK takes WK2 liners and hitches, and a 2021 two-row is a WK2. Buy listings that name the WL or say "not WK2".

L parts on a two-row, or the reverse. Floor liners and Mopar receivers split by body: Husky 99181 and Mopar 82219041AA are L parts, and 82219040AA is the two-row receiver.

A box that needs more spread than the bars give. Fixed-point Vortex bars sit at about 24.5 in. The SportRack Vista XL starts at 25-7/8 in, and Thule publishes no spread for the Force 3 L.

Loading or towing to the accessory's rating. A 7,500 lb hitch on a 6,200 lb V6 is a 6,200 lb setup, and 300 lb printed on a crossbar doesn't raise the roof limit.

Frequently asked questions

What should I upgrade first on a 2022–2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Floor liners, then crossbars. Liners cost the least, about $90–$210 across the cabin sets in our guide. Clamp-on crossbars come second at about $90–$150 and are the base for a cargo box later. A trailer hitch is third, because a tow-package Grand Cherokee already has a receiver and adding one means removing rear fascia trim. The cargo box is last, since it costs the most and has to match the bars. First confirm the body: two rows or three, WL or 2022 WK, gas or 4xe.

Do Grand Cherokee L parts fit the two-row Grand Cherokee?

Some do. The aftermarket hitches in our guide are one part for both: Draw-Tite's 76595 and CURT's 13525 list the 2022–2026 Grand Cherokee and the 2021–2026 Grand Cherokee L. All five Amazon crossbar sets in our roof rack guide name both bodies. Floor liners don't cross over, because the three-row L has a different rear floor; Husky sells L sets such as the 99181 separately. Mopar's receivers also split: 82219040AA for the two-row, 82219041AA for the L.

Is my 2022 Grand Cherokee a WL or a WK, and why does it matter?

For 2022 Jeep sold two different two-row Grand Cherokees. The new WL has the redesigned dash. The carry-over model, badged Grand Cherokee WK, is the older WK2 body. Both say 2022 on the registration, and parts don't swap. Husky lists the 2022 WK with its 2016–2021 liner set 99151, and Draw-Tite's 75699 hitch lists the 2011–2021 Grand Cherokee and the 2022 WK. If the cabin has the older-style dash, buy WK2 parts.

Does the Grand Cherokee 4xe need different floor liners, hitch or crossbars?

Liners, yes. Husky's WeatherBeater 95411 is listed for the 2022–2025 Grand Cherokee excluding the 4xe, so buy a set that names it, such as 3W's floor-and-cargo set. Crossbars, no: the 4xe uses the same body, and no bar listing in our roof rack guide excludes it. The hitch needs one check. CURT's 13525 excludes the two-row Trailhawk, which Wikipedia says has been 4xe-only since the 2023 model year, so a 4xe Trailhawk takes the Draw-Tite 76595 or the Mopar part, after a fit check with the seller.

Does my Grand Cherokee already have a trailer hitch?

Look under the rear fascia for a square 2 in opening. A dealer towing guide describes the available Trailer-Tow Package as a Class IV receiver hitch with seven-pin and four-pin wiring. A Grand Cherokee built with it needs only a ball mount. We could not confirm which trims and years include the package, so go by the vehicle and the window sticker. Mopar's replacement listing calls the production receiver a Class III, 2 in part, so read the label on the receiver for its rating.

How much can a 2022–2026 Grand Cherokee tow, and does a 7,500 lb hitch raise it?

No hitch raises it. Our vehicle data, Stellantis' 2025 fact sheet and Jeep's 2026 page list up to 6,200 lb for the 3.6L V6, and the 2026 page gives the same maximum for the new 2.0L Hurricane 4 Turbo. A dealer towing guide's 2025 page lists 7,200 lb for the 5.7L V8, where it was offered, on 2024 and earlier models, 6,000 lb for the 4xe on Trailhawk and higher trims and 3,500 lb for base 4xe models. These are maximums that vary with trim, package and model year. The owner's manual towing chart is the authority.

How much weight can the Grand Cherokee's roof carry with crossbars and a cargo box?

We could not confirm a roof load figure from a Jeep document, and our vehicle data holds none, so the owner's manual is the authority. The Thule WingBar Evo, Yakima SkyLine and Rhino-Rack Vortex systems etrailer lists for the 2023 Grand Cherokee are rated at 165 lb, as are BRIGHTLINES' bolt-in bars. The clamp-on Amazon sets print 220, 260 or 300 lb. The lower limit applies, and it covers box plus contents. A 47 lb Yakima SkyBox 16 on 165 lb bars leaves 118 lb for gear.

Will any cargo box fit Grand Cherokee crossbars?

Not on every bar set. Some flush-rail systems mount at fixed points, so the spread can't be changed. etrailer lists the Rhino-Rack Vortex at about 24.5 in. A box fits only if its minimum spread is no wider. Yakima's SkyBox 16 and CBX 16 start at 24 in, Thule's Motion 3 XL at 21-13/16 in and Rhino-Rack's MasterFit 440 at about 24.4 in. SportRack's Vista XL starts at 25-7/8 in, so it needs clamp-on bars that slide. Thule publishes no spread for the Force 3 L.

Does the 2026 refresh change which Grand Cherokee accessories fit?

No part in our guides is split at 2026, but several titles stop short of it. Jeep describes the 2026 model as a refresh with a new grille, new fascias and redesigned headlamps. Draw-Tite's 76595, CURT's 13525, 3W's liners and the Wonderdriver and BRIGHTLINES crossbars are listed through 2026. Husky's 95411 title stops at 2025, Flymotor's at 2024, the FLYCLE bars at 2025 and one budget hitch at 2024. A concealed hitch sits behind the rear fascia, so ask those sellers before ordering for a 2026.

How much does it cost to add all four upgrades to a Grand Cherokee?

From the prices on our four guides' picks, a budget build runs about $450–$590: a generic 5-seat liner set, FLYCLE crossbars, a budget Class 3 receiver and Rightline's Sport 3 soft carrier. A mid build runs about $900–$1,229 with 3W's floor-and-cargo set, Wonderdriver bars, CURT's 13525 and a SportRack Vista XL or Yakima SkyBox 16. A premium build with Husky's 95411 set, a Thule or Yakima bar system, a Draw-Tite or Mopar receiver and a Yakima CBX 16 or Thule Motion 3 XL runs about $1,704–$2,634. A factory receiver removes the hitch line.

BOTTOM LINE

On the 2022–2026 Grand Cherokee, buy floor liners matched to rows and powertrain first, add flush-rail crossbars second, fit a trailer hitch only if no factory receiver is there, and choose the cargo box last, to suit the bars.

The WL Grand Cherokee is easy to accessorize once five facts are written down: two rows or three, WL or the 2022 WK, gas or 4xe, receiver or no receiver, and sliding or fixed-point bars. Floor liners need the first three and cost the least, so they go first. A roof rack is second because clamp-on bars cost about $90–$150, cover the two-row and the L in one listing and decide which box fits.

The trailer hitch sits third because a tow-package Grand Cherokee doesn't need one, and a concealed receiver means fascia work on those that do. The cargo box is last because it is the biggest spend and has to suit the bars' spread and 165 lb rating. Owners of a 2011–2021 Grand Cherokee or a 2022 WK need WK2 parts, not these.

How we wrote this

We did not install any of these parts ourselves. The order comes from our four fit-checked 2022–2026 Grand Cherokee guides, weighing how many owners each upgrade suits, what it costs and which purchase depends on another (a cargo box needs crossbars first). Price bands are the prices listed on those guides' picks, checked at maker and retailer stores in September 2026, and are approximate. Vehicle facts come from our vehicle data, the guides' sources, Wikipedia's Grand Cherokee page, Jeep's 2026 Grand Cherokee pages, Stellantis' 2025 fact sheet and a dealer towing guide. Where the sources differ, or where we couldn't confirm a factory detail, the text says so.
