2022–2026 Ford Maverick Upgrades, Ranked: 4 Mods in Order, With Hybrid and 4K Tow Package Fit Traps
Four upgrades for the first-generation Maverick, in the order most owners should buy them. The bed is the easy part, because every Maverick has the same 54.4 in FLEXBED. The order is shaped by what differs: a hybrid battery or none under the rear seat, a factory receiver or none under the bumper, and a payload that a rack, a tent and a hitch rack use up quickly.

- Hybrid or EcoBoost decides the floor liners. The hybrid's battery changes the rear floor, so Husky sells the 95401 for hybrids and the 95051 for the EcoBoost.
- One bed on every Maverick. The FLEXBED is 54.4 in long on every trim, so a tonneau cover or bed rack only has to name the 2022+ Maverick.
- Look under the bumper before buying a hitch. Trucks with the 4K Tow Package already have a Class III 2 in receiver.
- The truck's rating is the ceiling. Ford rates every Maverick at 2,000 lb except AWD trucks with the 4K package, at 4,000 lb.
- Payload limits the rack before the rack does. Stivers Ford quotes a 1,500 lb maximum for the 2026 truck, and rack, tent, gear and passengers all count.
Maverick upgrades in priority order
Each step links to a full fit-checked guide for the 2022–2026 Ford Maverick.
Floor liners first: one question, hybrid or EcoBoost, and the lowest price on the page
Floor liners lead on the Maverick because they cost the least and every owner uses them on every drive. One fact decides fit: hybrid or 2.0L EcoBoost. Our floor liner guide says the hybrid's battery sits under the rear seat and changes the rear floor, so makers sell separate sets. Husky's WeatherBeater 95401 is listed for 2022–2026 hybrids only and the 95051 for the EcoBoost only. Husky backs both with a lifetime warranty against cracks and breaks, and they run about $140–$200. Budget TPE sets from Mixsuper, otoez and SHINJEW name the hybrid and run about $80–$130. The one budget EcoBoost set costs about $90–$130, and its listing stops at 2025. WeatherTech's FloorLiners, about $180–$240, don't state a powertrain in the title, so use WeatherTech's fit tool. Drivetrain doesn't matter: the guide says AWD doesn't change the cabin floor, and the Tremor is an EcoBoost truck. The trade-off is choice, since EcoBoost owners get fewer named sets.
Skip it if: You drive in a dry climate, keep the cab clean and are content with the factory mats.
Our best for hybrid: Husky Liners WeatherBeater 95401 ($140–$200)
Compare all 7 floor mats & liners picks →Tonneau cover second: the same 54.4 in bed on every truck, so buy by use
A tonneau cover ranks second because the Maverick's bed is short and open, and a cover turns it into a place to leave things. Every 2022–2026 Maverick has the same FLEXBED whatever the powertrain or trim, so the only check is that the listing names the Maverick. Retailers label that bed 4 ft 4 in, 4 ft 5 in or 4 ft 6 in, and our tonneau guide says they all mean the same 54.4 in. Prices run about $239 for Tyger's T3 soft tri-fold, about $350 for TruXedo's TruXport, about $850 for the UnderCover Triad, about $1,000 for the UnderCover Flex, about $1,050 for the BAKFlip MX4 and about $2,150 for the RetraxPRO MX. Published ratings are 600 lb for the Triad, 500 lb for the RetraxPRO MX and 400 lb for the MX4 and Flex, for evenly spread loads. Soft covers have none. The trade-off on this truck is water: owners on MaverickTruckClub report it running along the plastic rail caps toward the bulkhead under any cover, so budget for weatherstrip. If a bed rack is likely, read slot four before paying.
Skip it if: You haul tall loads most days and would spend more time removing the cover than using it.
Our best overall: BAKFlip MX4 Hard Folding Tonneau Cover 448324 ($1,050)
Compare all 6 tonneau covers picks →Trailer hitch third: skip it on a 4K truck, add it on every other one
A trailer hitch ranks third because some Mavericks should skip it and the rest get real use from it. Trucks built with the 4K Tow Package already have a Class III hitch with a 2 in receiver and a 4-/7-pin connector, so they need only a ball mount. Our hitch guide puts every other Maverick at 2,000 lb, and for those owners a bolt-on receiver is mostly a mount for a bike rack or cargo carrier. Our hitch guide's picks are all Class 3 with a 2 in receiver: CURT's 13504 at about $265, rated 4,000 lb trailer weight and 600 lb tongue weight, and the Draw-Tite 76557 and Reese 84557 at about $180–$240, rated 4,500 lb and 675 lb. A budget Armordillo kit with a ball mount runs about $150–$200, with ratings we could not verify. None of those numbers raises the truck's rating. The costs are a little cutting, since etrailer's notes for the CURT say fascia trimming is required, and a wiring harness at about $50–$80 if you tow.
Skip it if: A square 2 in receiver is already under the bumper, or you never carry bikes or pull a trailer.
Our best overall: CURT 13504 Class 3 Trailer Hitch ($265)
Compare all 5 trailer hitches picks →Bed rack last: thin fit data, a low cab and a small payload
The bed rack comes last because the fewest owners need one and its fit data is the thinnest. Four of our bed rack guide's six picks are budget racks described only from their listing titles, with no price in the guide. EAG's adjustable rack lists 600 lb static, which is a parked figure. Yakima's OutPost HD towers, about $799 before crossbars, are rated 500 lb on-road and 300 lb off-road at a fixed 13 in, but Yakima's page doesn't name the Maverick, so confirm the fit. BackRack's 15032 frame, about $262 plus a 30150 hardware kit at about $140, is a headache rack, not a tent platform. Height: owners on MaverickTruckClub say 18 in may be too short for a tent and 20 in just clears the antenna. Payload: Stivers Ford quotes a 1,500 lb maximum for the 2026 Maverick. And the cover: both OBNAUX racks say they are not for tonneau covers. If you camp from the truck, move this slot up to second and choose the cover around the rack.
Skip it if: Your loads fit under a cover and you don't carry boats, ladders or a tent.

Hybrid or EcoBoost, FWD or AWD, tow package or not: the three facts that sort the parts
Three facts about how your Maverick was built sort almost every part on this page. Take them from the window sticker.
Powertrain. The Maverick is sold with a 2.5L hybrid or a 2.0L EcoBoost; our vehicle data and Wikipedia describe the hybrid as standard. Powertrain decides the floor liners and the wiring harness. It doesn't change the bed, the tonneau cover or the bed rack.
Drivetrain. Wikipedia says that for 2022–2024 AWD was offered only with the EcoBoost, and that from the 2025 refresh the hybrid can have AWD while the EcoBoost is sold only with AWD. Drivetrain matters once here: Ford's towing guide gives the 4,000 lb rating only to AWD trucks with the 4K Tow Package.
Tow package. The 4K Tow Package, option code 53Q, decides whether you need a trailer hitch at all.
Tremor and Lobo. Both should take EcoBoost liners: our floor liner guide says the Tremor uses the EcoBoost with AWD, and Wikipedia says the Lobo has the 2.0L EcoBoost. Jalopnik reports the 4K package is not on the option menu for either in 2026. We could not confirm their factory receiver or tow rating, so read the door-jamb label.
| Build | Floor liners | Max trailer | Hitch | 4-way harness |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2022–2024 Hybrid (FWD only) | Hybrid sets: Husky 95401, Mixsuper, otoez, SHINJEW | 2,000 lb | No 4K option offered; aftermarket 2 in hitch | CURT 56477 excludes these; ask the seller |
| 2022–2024 EcoBoost without 4K | EcoBoost sets: Husky 95051 or the gas-only budget set | 2,000 lb | Aftermarket 2 in hitch | CURT 56477 |
| AWD with 4K (53Q): EcoBoost 2022–2026, Hybrid 2025–2026 | By powertrain | 4,000 lb | Factory Class III 2 in receiver; ball mount only | Not needed; factory 4-/7-pin |
| 2025–2026 FWD, or AWD without 4K | By powertrain | 2,000 lb | Aftermarket 2 in hitch | CURT 56477 with the LED taillight accent; 56567 without |
Before a hitch: look under the bumper, then read Ford's numbers
What a 4K truck already has. Ford's 2025 towing guide lists a hitch receiver, a 4-/7-pin connector, a transmission oil cooler, an upgraded cooling fan and, on the 2.0L, a radiator upgrade under code 53Q. Jalopnik describes the hitch as Class III with a 2 in receiver and puts the package at about $745 for 2026 on AWD XL, XLT and Lariat trucks. If that receiver is under your bumper, skip the hitch.
What the other trucks have. Our hitch guide describes no factory receiver on trucks without the package, and the Ford guide we read lists one only with 53Q. We could not confirm any factory receiver on those trucks, so don't assume one. Look before you order.
What a hitch cannot do. Ford rates every Maverick at 2,000 lb and AWD trucks with the package at 4,000 lb. The lower of truck and hitch rating wins, so a 4,500 lb Draw-Tite 76557 on a truck without the package is still a 2,000 lb setup.
Tongue weight. In the 2025 Ford guide we read, a 400 lb maximum tongue load is printed beside the 4,000 lb capacity of the factory receiver, and we found no separate figure for 2,000 lb trucks. Our hitch guide treats 400 lb as the ceiling for a hitch rack on any Maverick. On a 2,000 lb build, check the owner's manual before loading a hitch rack near 400 lb.
One bed, 54.4 in: FLEXBED features, and what the listings say about sharing the rails
Every 2022–2026 Maverick has one cab and one bed. Our guides give the FLEXBED as 54.4 in long, 53.3 in between the sidewalls, 42.6 in between the wheel wells and 20.3 in deep; our vehicle data rounds the length to 54 in. Three built-in features matter for accessories:
- Slots in the bed sides. Stivers Ford says they take 2x4 and 2x6 lumber for dividers. Our tonneau guide says covers clamp above them, so a divider only interferes if it stands above the rail line.
- A separately fused 12V circuit. Wikipedia describes it as built in for customization, and our bed rack guide suggests it as the feed for rack lights. We did not read a rating for it, so check before adding high-draw lights.
- Plastic rail caps with channels. Owners on MaverickTruckClub report water tracking along them toward the bulkhead under a cover.
A cover's clamps and a rack's feet use the same strip of bed rail, so plan the pair with the table below. Then fit in this order: floor liners, then the cover, since our bed rack guide says to fit a tri-fold before the rack over it, then the rack, then recheck the cover's seals. The hitch can go on at any point.
| Part | What the listing or maker says | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| IIIREENO bed rack | Compatible with most tri-fold covers; title names the 2022–2024 Maverick | Name your cover and model year to the seller |
| OBNAUX 16–24.8 in and 11.2–13.2 in racks | Not for tonneau covers | Plan a rack-only bed |
| EAG adjustable rack | No cover statement in our guide | Ask the seller before buying both |
| Yakima OutPost HD towers | Tonneau Kit 1 for select covers; the page doesn't name the Maverick | Run Yakima's fit lookup |
| BackRack 15032 frame | The 30150 kit is the only one that works with BackRack's tonneau adapter brackets | Budget for frame, kit and brackets |
| Tyger T3 TG-BC3F1061 | Not for a Utility Track System; over-rail bedliners need holes cut for the clamps | Check for add-on rails first |
Payload on a unibody truck: add it up before the rack, the tent or the trailer
Wikipedia lists a front-wheel-drive-based unibody platform shared with the Ford Escape and Bronco Sport. Stivers Ford quotes a maximum payload of 1,500 lb for the 2026 Maverick, and our bed rack guide notes your door-jamb sticker may show less depending on trim and options. We did not read payload by powertrain or model year, so use the sticker.
Everything here comes out of that figure:
- The rack. Yakima lists the OutPost HD towers at 44.09 lb before crossbars, and our bed rack guide gives BackRack's 15032 frame as 48 lb.
- The cover and hitch. Tyger lists the soft T3 at 25.58 lb, and CURT's 13504 weighs 33 lb. Check the maker's page for a hard cover.
- The tent, gear and passengers.
- The hitch load. Tongue weight counts, and so does a loaded bike rack or cargo carrier.
Yakima's towers are rated at 500 lb on-road and 300 lb off-road. EAG's 600 lb is a static figure for a parked truck. The IIIREENO and both OBNAUX racks give no rating in their titles, so treat them as racks for light gear until the seller gives static and dynamic numbers in writing. Cover ratings, from 400 lb on the BAKFlip MX4 to 600 lb on the UnderCover Triad, are for flat, evenly spread loads, and that weight still counts toward payload.
Model years: the 2025 refresh and listings that stop early
Wikipedia describes the 2025 refresh as a new front fascia and headlights, a 13.2 in touchscreen, AWD and the 4K Tow Package on the hybrid for the first time, the Tremor as its own trim and the new Lobo. No part in our guides is split at 2025 except the wiring harness, as the first table shows.
What varies is where each listing's year range ends:
- Floor liners. Husky, Mixsuper and SHINJEW list 2022–2026; otoez and the gas-only budget set stop at 2025.
- Tonneau covers. The Amazon titles for the UnderCover Triad and RetraxPRO MX stop at 2025.
- Hitches. CURT and Draw-Tite list 2022–2026; Reese's Amazon title names only 2022.
- Bed racks. The IIIREENO title stops at 2024, and the EAG and both OBNAUX titles at 2025.
We could not confirm 2026 fit for the listings that stop early, so ask the seller in writing.
What to avoid
Hybrid liners in an EcoBoost, or the reverse. The hybrid's battery changes the rear floor. Most budget sets are hybrid-only, and the Tremor is an EcoBoost truck.
Treating the hitch rating as the tow rating. A 4,500 lb hitch on a Maverick without the 4K Tow Package is still a 2,000 lb setup. With a factory 2 in receiver, you need no hitch at all.
Buying the rack and the cover separately. Both OBNAUX racks say they are not for tonneau covers, and only the IIIREENO listing names tri-folds as compatible. Match the pair first.
Loading to a rack's static number. EAG's 600 lb is a parked figure. The truck's payload, quoted at 1,500 lb maximum for 2026, is the limit that counts.
Frequently asked questions
What should I upgrade first on a 2022–2026 Ford Maverick?
Floor liners, then a tonneau cover. Liners cost the least, about $80–$240 across our guide, and they need one fact from you: hybrid or 2.0L EcoBoost. The cover comes second because a 54.4 in bed is too small to leave open. A trailer hitch is third, and only if your truck has no factory receiver. The bed rack comes last, but decide on it before paying for the cover. A budget TPE liner set and Tyger's T3 soft cover at about $239 come to about $319–$369.
Do hybrid and EcoBoost Mavericks take the same accessories?
For the bed, yes. For the cab and the wiring, no. Our tonneau and bed rack guides say every Maverick has the same 54.4 in FLEXBED, so covers and racks are not split by powertrain. Floor liners are. The hybrid's battery sits under the rear seat and changes the rear floor, so Husky sells the 95401 for the hybrid and the 95051 for the EcoBoost. A hitch bolts to either truck, but CURT's 56477 wiring harness excludes 2022–2024 hybrids.
Does my Maverick already have a trailer hitch?
Look under the rear bumper. A square 2 in receiver tube with a 4-/7-pin connector means the truck almost certainly has the 4K Tow Package, and you need only a ball mount. Other trucks are less clear. Our hitch guide and the Ford towing guide we read describe a factory receiver only with the package, and we could not confirm one on trucks without it. Check your own truck before ordering a trailer hitch, because a bolt-on hitch is wasted money if a receiver is already there.
Can a Maverick Hybrid tow 4,000 lb, and can I add the 4K Tow Package later?
Only a 2025 or later hybrid with AWD and the factory 4K Tow Package is rated at 4,000 lb. Ford's 2025 towing guide lists the front-drive hybrid at 2,000 lb with or without the package, and every 2022–2024 hybrid is a 2,000 lb truck. The package can't be added later. It bundles the receiver with a trailer brake controller, an upgraded cooling fan and a transmission oil cooler, and our hitch guide cites Go-Parts describing those as factory-only upgrades. An aftermarket hitch rated at 4,500 lb supplies the receiver and nothing else.
Can I run a tonneau cover and a bed rack together on a Maverick?
Sometimes, and only if you plan them as a pair. Our bed rack guide found one budget rack, the IIIREENO, whose listing says it is compatible with most tri-fold covers; it names the 2022–2024 Maverick. Both OBNAUX racks say they are not for tonneau covers. Yakima says its OutPost HD towers need Tonneau Kit 1 for select covers. BackRack's 30150 hardware kit is the only one that works with its tonneau adapter brackets. Name your cover to the rack seller before buying either part.
How much weight can a Maverick carry with a rack, a tent and a hitch rack?
Start with the door-jamb sticker. Stivers Ford quotes a maximum payload of 1,500 lb for the 2026 Maverick, and your truck's figure may be lower. The rack, the tent, the gear, every passenger and the weight on the hitch all come out of that number. Yakima's OutPost HD towers weigh 44.09 lb before crossbars and BackRack's frame weighs 48 lb. Yakima rates its towers at 500 lb on-road and 300 lb off-road, and EAG's 600 lb is a static, parked figure.
Did the 2025 refresh change which Maverick accessories fit?
Mostly no. Wikipedia's list of 2025 changes includes a new front fascia, a 13.2 in touchscreen, hybrid AWD and the new Lobo. Most parts are listed straight through: Husky's 95401 and 95051, the BAKFlip MX4 448324 and CURT's 13504 all list 2022–2026. The wiring harness is the exception. CURT's 56477 needs the LED taillight accent on 2025 and later trucks, and the 56567 covers 2025–2026 trucks without it. Several Amazon titles stop at 2024 or 2025, so confirm later years with the seller.
Do the Maverick Tremor and Lobo need different parts?
For the bed, no. Our bed rack guide says hybrid, EcoBoost, AWD and Tremor trucks share the same FLEXBED. For floor liners, our guide says the Tremor uses the 2.0L EcoBoost with AWD, so it takes EcoBoost sets. Wikipedia says the Lobo is also powered by the 2.0L EcoBoost; our liner guide doesn't name it, so confirm on the listing. Jalopnik reports the 4K Tow Package is not on the option menu for the 2026 Tremor or Lobo, and we could not confirm those trims' tow ratings. Read the door-jamb label.
How much does it cost to add all four upgrades to a Maverick?
By our four guides' prices, the first three upgrades on a budget run about $469–$680: a budget TPE liner set, a Tyger T3 or TruXedo TruXport soft cover and the Armordillo hitch kit. The budget racks are priced only on their listings. A mid build runs about $1,572–$1,892 with Husky liners, a hard folding cover, a Draw-Tite or Reese hitch and a BackRack frame with its hardware kit. A premium build with WeatherTech liners, the RetraxPRO MX, CURT's 13504 and Yakima's OutPost HD towers runs about $3,394–$3,454 before crossbars. A wiring harness adds about $50–$80.
Will a tonneau cover keep the Maverick's bed dry, and does it block the FLEXBED slots?
Not fully dry, and no. Our tonneau guide cites owners on MaverickTruckClub who report water running along channels in the plastic rail caps toward the bulkhead. The fixes they report are extra weatherstrip at the bulkhead and tailgate, butyl tape in the rail-cap channels and larger ½ in drain tubes. The FLEXBED slots sit in the bed sides below the rail, and the covers in our guide clamp above them, so dividers still work with the cover closed as long as the lumber stays below the rail line.
On the 2022–2026 Maverick, buy floor liners matched to hybrid or EcoBoost first and a tonneau cover for the one 54.4 in bed second, add a trailer hitch only if no factory receiver is under the bumper, and buy a bed rack last, after checking height, payload and the cover it shares the rails with.
The Maverick is an easy truck to accessorize once three facts are written down: powertrain, drivetrain and whether the 4K Tow Package is on the window sticker. Floor liners need the powertrain and cost the least, so they go first. The tonneau cover needs none of the three, because every Maverick has the same bed. The trailer hitch needs all three: the package decides whether you buy one, the drivetrain and package set the 2,000 lb or 4,000 lb rating, and the powertrain and model year pick the wiring harness.
The bed rack sits last because few owners need one, most Maverick-specific racks publish little beyond a title, and payload leaves less room than the load figures suggest. The rack decision still has to be made before the cover is paid for. Where we could not confirm a detail, namely any factory receiver on trucks without the package and the tongue weight limit on 2,000 lb trucks, your own truck and its owner's manual settle it.

Open the Maverick fit hub →How we wrote this
We did not install any of these parts ourselves. The order comes from our four fit-checked 2022–2026 Maverick guides, weighing how many trucks each upgrade suits, what it costs, how often it is used and how much of its fit is confirmed for this truck. Price bands are the prices listed on those guides' picks, checked in September 2026, and are approximate. Vehicle facts come from our vehicle data, the guides' sources, Wikipedia, Ford's 2025 towing guide, Jalopnik and a Ford dealer's bed page. Where we couldn't confirm a factory detail, the text says so. Running boards, roof racks and light bars have no Maverick guide here, so they are not ranked.
